V listopadu jsme měli mít možnost navštívit odložený koncert tria britsko – irských hudebníků (Doyle, McCusker, McGoldrick). Covid byl tentokrát milostivý, ale vypadá to, že muzikantům, kteří vystupovali naposledy, myslím, v Manchesteru, se nechtělo za dva dny na to být v Praze. Naděje prý ještě neumřela, protože o náhradním termínu se údajně jedná. Takže do třetice . . .
Už druhý měsíc se u Vaška ve Whisky & Kilt z různých důvodů nekonala session. Doufejme, že se konala někde jinde v Česku, aby muzikanti nezapomněli. Konalo se i několik koncertů na irský repertoár zaměřených hudebních skupin (MálemIrish, Shannon,…). Nicméně u nás, v blízkém i dalekém okolí okolo nás se schyluje k nové vlně omezení, která zcela jistě nebudou přát kultuře. Doufejme, že alespoň tomu Lordovi (LOTD) se v únoru podaří projet Českem.
Na počátku listopadu o prvním víkendu se v Mnichově uskutečnila RCCEA kvalifikace na světový šampionát v irském tanci, který by se měl konat v roce 2022. S ohledem na stávají problémy s covidem 19 je účast tanečníků značně limitovaná. Nicméně Mnichovský feis a kvalifikace úspěšně proběhly. Jeden den navštívil na náš popud tuto akci náš mnichovský kamarád Vláďa Jágr a udělal zde několik fotografií.

– Na facebooku jsem zaregistroval informaci, že výborný irský muzikant a mj. i lektor BSS Stephen Doherty si na začátku druhé poloviny měsíce odvezl z porodnice syna Seamuse.
Blahopřejeme a doufáme, že je to počátek životní dráhy nového excelentního hudebníka.
– Irská televize TG4 připravila pro zájemce o irskou tradiční hudbu a její hlavní protagonisty několikadílný seriál s názvem Sé mo Laoch věnovaný této hudbě a legendárním muzikantům. Zatím tato serie má asi 32 pokračování a vedle známých žijících hudebníků stačili autoři podchytit a z archivních materiálů doplnit profil i dnes už nežijících muzikantů. Vypadá to, že v nejbližší covidové budoucnosti takto presentovaná tradiční kultura bude možná jediná možná.
– Vydavatelství Claddagh Records připravilo k nastávajícímu výročí 60 let Chieftains komplet 2 CD a DVD, ve kterých se autoři tohoto počinu ohlížejí za dlouhou historií této významné irské hudební skupiny. Skládačka obsahuje na dvou CD téměř 40 skladeb mapujících hudební produkci jinak obsaženou na téměř 40 albech.
Přídavkem je DVD, které se soustřeďuje hlavně na období zhruba do roku 2000 a obsahuje řadu unikátních vystoupení a koncertů. Zachycuje také ty nejpodstatnější personální proměny, kterými skupina prošla právě v tomto období, než se stabilizovala do celkem velmi dobře známé sestavy. Součástí je ještě obsažný booklet (28 stran), který vedle obsahu obou CD a DVD shrnuje v časové ose nejdůležitější milníky za dobu existence skupiny, tedy zejména změny v sestavě a vydaná alba. Protože se jedná o velmi vyjímečnou událost, vydavatelská společnost připravila pro zájemce stejný titul na třech zelených vinylových deskách, případně na dvou černých. Lze také objednat v levnější formě jen obě CD bez DVD.
Takže kdo má rád Chieftains, může směle svému okolí sdělit, co by si přál pod vánoční stromeček. Objednání se dá časově dobře stihnout.

In advance of their 60th anniversary next year, The Chieftains will release Chronicles: 60 years of The Chieftains on November 12th, 2021 on the Claddagh Records label. The project, which has been in production for the last twelve months, was postponed following the untimely death of Paddy Moloney, the group’s founder and leader, in October. However, following consultation with Paddy’s family and the remaining members of The Chieftains, the project has been completed as Paddy wished with the original artwork, track list, liner notes and footage.
The release marks the first time ever a complete career retrospective from The Chieftains has been released and includes tracks from across the band’s discography – from their very first album release Chieftains 1 right up to their most recent studio album release Voice of Ages – and includes seminal collaborations with The Rolling Stones, Paulo Nutini, Diana Krall, Alison Krauss, Van Morrison and Sinéad O’Connor. It also includes previously unreleased recordings from Live at The Royal Albert Hall, Live at The Cambridge Folk Festival as well as footage and recordings from the BBC and RTÉ archives. Chronicles: 60 years of The Chieftains will be available across multiple formats including 2CD, 2CD/DVD, 2LP, 3LP (Ireland only), Digital Standard and Digital Deluxe.
Founded in 1962, winners of six GRAMMY® Awards and an Academy® Award, The Chieftains have popularized traditional Irish music world-wide during their 60-year career. Their ability to transcend musical boundaries to blend tradition with modern music has notably hailed them as one of the most renowned and revered musical groups to this day.
Their repertoire was, and is, largely of Ireland. Well-established dance tunes such as Drowsy Maggie and The Chattering Magpie were given a new invigorating life by the group, not to mention eminent songs and airs that might be described as their signature tunes. Foremost among these must be Mná na hÉireann (The Women of Ireland) whose haunting melody, composed by Seán Ó Riada, continues to resonate and remain relevant in the twenty-first century. Their instrumental version was released in 1973 on the album The Chieftains 4 and their version of the song, based on the Irish of the eighteenth-century poet Peadar Ó Doirnín, features prominently on the soundtrack to the film Barry Lyndon released in 1975. Kate Bush, Mike Oldfield and Sinéad O’Connor are among the famous performers of the piece.
Their inspirational musicianship is reflected on tracks such as Brian Ború’s March from The Chieftains 2 and Carolan’s Welcome on The Chieftains 9 (Boil The Breakfast Early). Drawing from the vast well of Irish tradition, this ensemble blended old and new and remained totally committed to their genre.
In addition to the audio recordings, Chronicles: 60 years of The Chieftains also includes a bonus DVD that gives an insight to the visual history of the band. The performers’ hairstyles and fashions may have evolved down the years, but even now as they approach their 60th anniversary, that magical experience The Chieftains give their listeners, is as strong and as vibrant as ever.
The legacy of The Chieftains is immense as evident from this collection. Chronicles: 60 years of The Chieftains is a fitting tribute to a unique group of musicians.

– Před koncem měsíce se v pátek 26. listopadu ještě uskutečnil skotský bál v Praze 6 v sálu Na Marjánce, který již tradičně pořádá Caledonian Club u příležitosti svátku sv. Ondřeje. Nebyl jsem na této akci a nikde jsem se po jejím uskutečnění o ní nic nedočetl. O sobě v souvislosti s touto akcí dal zatím vědět jen Vašek Rout, který zde prodával whisky a whiskey. Věřím, že se akce podařila.
