Willie Clancy Summer School připravuje 54. ročník
Letošní 54. ročník Willie Clancy Summer School se bude konat v Miltown Malbay na západním pobřeží Irska ve dnech 4. – 12. července. Pryč jsou doby, kdy se téměř všechny lekce odbývaly v tomto malém městečku a přilehlém Spanish pointu. Některé lekce – jak je dále uvedeno – se budou konat v některých okolních vesnicích, protože prostory v městečku už nestačí velkému zájmu účastníků.
INSTRUMENT CLASSES & WORKSHOPS LOCATIONS:
• FIDDLE CLASSES will be held at St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Spanish Point. Assembly at Monday 9am at St. Joseph’s.
• WHISTLE AND FLUTE CLASSES will be held in National School, Mullagh Road and private houses, Miltown Malbay. Assembly at Monday 9am at the National School.
• CONCERTINA CLASSES will be held in National School, Mullagh Road and private houses, Miltown Malbay. Assembly at Monday 9am at the Mill Marquee, GAA Grounds.
• BANJO CLASSES will be held in Mullagh Village, in the Sports Centre and various venues. Assembly at Monday 9am at the Sports Centre, Mullagh
• BUTTON ACCORDION (B/C, C#/D) & MELODEON CLASSES will be held at the Quilty Tavern, Quilty National School and GAA Clubhouse, Quilty. Assembly at Monday 9am at the Quilty Tavern.
• PIPING CLASSES and PIPERS WORKSHOP will be held in The Limerick & Clare Education Centre, Ballard Road, and in private houses. Piping classes will be pre-registered. – Old-Style Traditional Step Dances. A unique heritage of dances learned from Dan Furey & James Keane (West Clare), Céline Tubridy (Donegal), Margaret Wray (Derry), and Paddy Bán Ó Broin with Maureen O’Reilly, GAA Clubhouse, Miltown Malbay.
• TRADITIONAL SINGING WORKSHOPS at St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Spanish Point. These workshops will examine the Irish and English language song traditions and traditional singers will demonstrate aspects of these traditions. Conducted by Brian Mullen and Ciarán Ó Gealbháin. In addition there will afternoon singing workshops on 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th July, 4.00pm – 6.00pm, at the National School, Mullagh Rd, Miltown Malbay. Conducted by Máire Ní Choilm and Jerry O’Reilly. These are confined to students attending the Singing and Dúchas an Cheoil morning courses.
• DÚCHAS AN CHEOIL/SCOPE OF IRISH MUSIC at St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Spanish Point. A week long introduction to the Irish traditional music heritage. Conducted by Paddy Glackin and Cathal Goan. This course is accredited by the University of Limerick through the Blas Summer School. See www.blas.ie
• CONVERSATIONAL IRISH (beginners, intermediate, advanced) Classes: 2pm – 3pm Mon 6th to Fri 10th July, National School, Mullagh Road, Miltown Malbay. Confined to students who are registered for the week’s programme.
• READ MUSIC THE TRAD WAY at St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Spanish Point, from 10:00am-2:30pm, Monday 6th to Friday 10th July.
Součástí programu každé této letní školy je bohatý doprovodný program. Předně se účastníci mohou zúčastnit řady recitálů zaměřených na jednotlivé vyučované nástroje, zpěv a tanec. Zde vystupují nejen lektoři letní školy, ale i vybraní účastníci lekcí. Pro tanečníky je připraven speciální doprovodný program v podobě ceilithe v Mill Marquee každý den ve večerních hodinách. Tanečníci pak ještě mají možnost si vybrat mezi těmito ceilithe a programem akce Set Dance Week, který paralelně probíhá v hotelu Armada na Spanish pointu. Workshops
Dúchas an Cheoil (The Heritage of Irish Music)
Dúchas an Cheoil is an ideal forum in which to learn about the history and evolution of Irish traditional music, song and dance, and the personalities, organisations and events that have shaped that history and narrative. The primary focus is on the listening experience and on creating an awareness of the social and historical context in which the larger part of this musical tradition was created. Emphasis is placed on a relaxed and informal interaction between student, tutors and players and singers. The musicians and singers who visit the class are among the most acclaimed practitioners of Irish music and students are encouraged at all times to ask questions. They are not required to have any previous experience or expertise in Irish music. Curiosity and an open mind and ear are all they need to bring to the workshop. The tutors are Paddy Glackin and Cathal Goan and the workshops are held in St.Joseph’s Secondary School, Spanish Point, Monday 7th to Saturday 12th July, 10am to 1pm.
Paddy Glackin is a leading fiddle player of his generation. He has been to the fore in promoting the fiddle music of Donegal and has played a seminal role in a number of enormously influential music groupings such as Ceoltóirí Laighean, The Bothy Band and composer John Cage’s Roaratorio. He has recorded widely as a solo and ensemble player and he was for many years a producer in RTÉ.
Cathal Goan has a life-long interest in Irish music and song and started his professional career in RTÉ as an archivist with special responsibility for Irish music and song. He has written on a number of aspects of the Donegal song tradition and served for many years as chairman of the Irish Traditional Music Archive. He was founding director of TG4 and also Director General of RTÉ.

Traditional singing
This workshop will take the form of lectures, group discussions, class participation and demonstrations by traditional singers in Irish and English; please note that these are not singing classes. The workshops will be held daily from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m., Monday to Saturday at St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Spanish Point and will be conducted by Brian Mullen and Ciarán Ó Gealbháin.
In addition there will be four afternoon workshops on 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th July with Máire Ní Choilm and Jerry O’Reilly, from 4 to 6pm, National School, Mullagh Rd. These are confined to students attending the Singing and Dúchas an Cheoil morning workshops.

This pioneering course, developed and conducted by Dr Liz Doherty, is designed for traditional musicians and primary school teachers. It is offered in partnership with I Teach Trad, certified by the Royal Irish Academy of Music, and recognised by the Dept.of Education for EPV purposes. The course will be held at St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Spanish Point, from 10:00am-2:30pm, Monday 7th to Friday 11th July.
