New information about BSS 2010

We would like to inform all prospective applicants of BSS 2010 and visitors of our website about various novelties concerning this year’s Summer School.

First of all I need to point out to step dancing students registered with CLRG that BSS 2010 will not be declared Open Workshop by CLRG this year. We have been trying to obtain a written form of rules and binding statements from competent CLRG representatives and authorities, because we do not want to complicate anyone’s dancing prospects, but unfortunately our intense efforts did not meet with understanding on the other side and no one from CLRG has sent us those documents yet. This is also illustrated by the correspondence featured in the Czech part of the BSS website. We are very sorry about this situation since it has often been the case, that for many Irish dancers, specifically our Summer School was the gateway to CLRG-registered schools.

Currently there is a quite intense application process going on to the various workshops. A seemingly small group of applicants actually means a substantially larger amount of applications (almost every future BSS participant applied to at least 2 workshops). We are already getting the hint that some workshops may soon be full and closed (step dancing – beginners-primary, sean nós dancing) and we will be registering people on a waiting list. However, if those interested to attend send in their application soon, we are still able to reinforce the teacher group by more quality teachers. Therefore, do not leave it to the last moment.

This year’s Summer School is taking place already for the tenth time. This is a reason to approach this jubilee edition in a somewhat more spectacular manner. We have decided to emphasise this jubilee for the participants during the Final Evening where we planned to invite interesting guests. Our invitation has been accepted by a young and very likeable dancer, Emma O´Sullivan, winner of the 2009 sean nós dancing championship; she will come with her accompanying musician, John O´Halloran. This year the two of them even participated in the finals of a talent show organised by RTE. We are also negotiating the participation of another guest, the dancer, choreographer and dance company Devine Dance Company director, James Devine. James is also famous for being the fastest tap dancer in the world – he is entered in the Guinness Book of Records with his 38 clicks per second. I think this is another reason to visit Bernard Summer School (quality teachers, friendly atmosphere, a historical city surroundings). Now we have added another reason in the special experience of meeting distinguished dance stars.
We are looking forward to seeing you there.
