Bernards Summer School acquired Open Workshop status

25. 05. 2009 | 97 reads

Based on yet officially unconfirmed news, the 9th Summer School of Irish Dancing - Bernards Summer School has been approved by An Coimisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha as an OPEN WORKSHOP. This happened at a Commission Meeting which took place in Dublin on the weekend of 16-17 April.

With regard to this fact it is therefore no obstacle for the particpation of dancers who are members of schools under this organisation and their involvement in step dancing lessons (there is no problem concerning their participation in sean-nós, set dancing, musical instrument or Irish lessons). However, their participation depends purely on the permission of their teacher. Our experience so far is unfortunately that teachers (TCRG) usually do not grant this permission. I think it is legitimate to strive to receive such permission to participate at this Summer School due to the fact that there are high quality teachers (from Án Coimisiún) teaching there, the school has high social potential and is economically accessible. On the other hand, maybe exactly these facts are the reason which inhibit the approval despite the fact that they serve for the benefit of Irish dancing and increasing its quality level here in Continental Europe.
